报告人简介：

Georg Gartner is a Full Professor of Cartography at TU Wien, Austria, where he heads the Research Unit Cartography. He is President of the International Cartographic Association (ICA) and has been actively involved in advancing cartographic research, education and international cooperation for many years. His research interests focus on contemporary cartography, location-based services, geospatial visualization and the role of cartography in emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence. He is also actively engaged in international education initiatives, including the International Master in Cartography.

报告内容摘要：

Maps are among the most powerful instruments for understanding and communicating our world. But cartography today goes far beyond producing maps. It has become a dynamic field at the intersection of geospatial data, visualization, human cognition, digital technologies and artificial intelligence. This presentation explores how cartography is evolving from representing geographic information towards supporting spatial understanding, decision-making and interaction with our environment. Using accessible examples, it highlights current developments, challenges and opportunities, and argues why cartographic thinking remains essential in an increasingly data-driven and AI-enabled world.
