Xiong Ying, a Doctoral Candidate in Our University, Won the AAPG Grants-In-Aid

Recently, the website of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) announced the 2020 AAPG Grants-In-Aid winners. Xiong Ying, a doctoral candidate under the instruction of Professor Tan Xiucheng from the School of Geoscience and Technology of our university, was selected and received a grant of US$3,000. It was the first time that the graduate students of our school had received funding for this project.

Grants-In-Aid (GIA) is a fund established by AAPG for global postgraduate students in master and doctoral programs. It aims to provide financial assistance to postgraduate students and support researches on the exploration and development of energy mineral resources, environmental geology and other related fields.

In 2020, a total of 110 postgraduates worldwide received this funding, of which 17 are from China, with individual grants ranging from 500 to 3,000 US dollars.

Ying Xiong is a doctoral candidate of Grade 2018 at Southwest Petroleum University. His main research direction is oil and gas reservoir geology. He is currently under co-training at Clausthal University of Technology in Germany (under supervisor Professor Hou Zhengmeng). He has had a number of papers published in journals such asJournal of Asian Earth Sciences, Journal of Petroleum Science and Engineering, Oil and Gas Geology, Acta Sedimentologica Sinca,andJournal of Paleogeography.
