International Doctoral Program in Petroleum and Gas Engineering

(Discipline Code: 0820)

Petroleum and natural gas engineering is a series of projects carried out for the purpose of exploiting and utilizing underground petroleum and natural gas resources orderly and safe in efficient drilling, development, exploitation, storage and transportation. It is a knowledge-intensive, capital-intensive and technology-intensive systematic project for people to understand crustal strata and develop and utilize deep resources. The first-level disciplines of Petroleum and Natural Gas engineering in South-west Petroleum University include six second-level disciplines: oil/gas well engineering, oil/gas reservoir development engineering, oil/gas storage and transportation engineering, offshore oil/gas engineering (self-established), petroleum engineering computing technology (self-established) and petroleum engineering management (self-established).

In 1978, the discipline of Oil and gas Field Development Engineering began to recruit graduate students.In 1986, it began to recruit doctoral students.In 1988, the discipline of Oil and gas Field Development Engineering (Combined petroleum mechanical Engineering) became one of the first national key disciplines.In 1990, the discipline of oil and gas drilling engineering (now oil and gas well engineering) was added as the discipline of doctor and master admission.In 2002, the discipline of oil and gas well engineering was approved as a national key discipline.In 2007, the first-level discipline of oil and gas engineering was approved as a national key discipline, and the second-level discipline of oil and gas storage and transportation engineering was approved as a national key discipline.In 2013, the second-level discipline of Offshore oil and gas engineering was approved to recruit doctoral and master students.In 2017, the first-level discipline of Petroleum and Natural Gas was awarded A+ in the fourth round of discipline evaluation, and was selected as the first-round "Double First-class" discipline in the same year.In 2022, it will pass the first round of "Double First-class" construction evaluation and enter the second round of "double first-class" construction disciplines.In 2021, the research direction of the first-level disciplines of oil and gas engineering will be adjusted to 15:Oil and gas well engineering mechanics and built well, oil and gas well working fluid and reservoir protection, multiphase flow theory and application of natural gas development engineering, reservoir engineering, the recovery and improve the reservoir reconstruction theory and technology to increase production, mining, oil and gas engineering theory and technology, integration of geological engineering, ground engineering of oil and gas, oil and gas pipeline construction, transportation and storage, storage and transportation system optimization and integrity management,Offshore oil and gas engineering, gas hydrate development, oil and gas safety engineering, intelligent oil and gas engineering.This discipline has formed its distinctive characteristics in the above research directions.

1.Training objectives

Understand Chinese culture, politics, economy and history, master some degree of Chinese.Have good scientific spirit, rigorous style of study and strong innovation ability.Master the first-level discipline and related discipline knowledge of petroleum and natural gas engineering, further consolidate the basic theoretical foundation, pay attention to the upstream field of oil and gas exploration and downstream fields such as oil and gas refining, environmental protection and disaster prevention, grasp the frontiers of disciplines and the development trend of related disciplines.I have good humanistic quality, engineering philosophy and engineering ethics consciousness, teamwork, rigorous and realistic, hard-working quality, and strong academic expression and communication ability.Be able to independently engage in scientific research, technology development, engineering design and engineering management in this discipline, and make creative achievements.To cultivate top innovation and high-level innovation leaders with forward-looking and international vision and with both political integrity and ability.

2. Training direction

1). Oil and Gas Well Engineering (082001).The task is to establish a channel connecting the material flow, information transmission and energy exchange between the underground oil and gas reservoir and the surface oil and gas gathering and transportation device, that is, oil and gas well construction engineering, including drilling engineering and completion engineering two major parts.Nine research directions are set up, including oil and gas well engineering mechanics and tools, oil and gas well engineering information and control, oil and gas well working fluid, reservoir protection theory and technology, oil and gas well cementing and completion, oil and gas well engineering logging and logging, oil and gas well construction safety engineering, well construction system optimization and management, and intelligent oil and gas well.Among them, it has characteristics and advantages in drilling fluid and completion fluid of deep and ultra-deep well, reservoir protection theory and technology, cementing and completion of oil and gas well, and safety engineering of construction of high-risk oil and gas well.

2). Oil and gas Field Development Project (082002).According to the occurrence characteristics of oil and gas resources and based on the law of oil and gas flow, various technical means are used to develop oil and gas from underground reasonably, efficiently and safely and flow to the surface oil and gas storage devices. To set up the reservoir description and oil and gas field development geology, seepage flow mechanics theory and method and reservoir numerical simulation, field development, reservoir engineering and oilfield development, wellbore multiphase flow theory and the application theory and technology, the oil and gas production, oil gas recovery transformation, improve the recovery efficiency of oil and gas, the reservoir operation and management, oil field water injection project, the safety of oil and gas field development engineering, artificial intelligence and big dataAnd 12 research directions.Among them, the research has obvious advantages and characteristics in the academic directions of numerical simulation of oil and gas reservoirs, theory and method of gas field development, oil and gas field stimulation and reconstruction, enhanced oil and gas recovery, and safety engineering of high risk oil and gas field development.

3). Oil and gas Storage and Transportation Project (082003).This is the process of moving oil and gas from the wellhead to the collection, treatment and separation unit, pipeline, and end market users.This subject direction in mathematics, mechanics, thermodynamics, chemistry, materials and other disciplines theory as the foundation, combining with theory, computer science, systems engineering and other artificial intelligence fusion, big data and cloud computing, the oil and gas storage and transportation system in the process, equipment, structure, security, and so on aspects of the theory and technology problems to conduct innovative research.Four research directions are set up, including oil and gas gathering, transportation and processing, simulation and optimization of oil and gas storage and transportation system, oil and gas storage and transportation safety engineering, and multiphase flow of oil and gas gathering and transportation system.Among them, it has long-term research accumulation and relative advantages in the academic directions of natural gas gathering, transportation and processing, simulation and optimization of natural gas storage and transportation system, and safety engineering of natural gas storage and transportation.

4). Offshore Oil and Gas Engineering (0820Z3).According to the development and utilization of offshore oil and gas resources, especially the needs of the development and utilization of oil and gas resources, five research directions have been set up: offshore oil and gas field drilling and completion, offshore oil and gas field development and exploitation, offshore oil and gas gathering and transportation, offshore deepwater engineering and safety, and offshore gas hydrate development. It mainly studies the combination of ocean deep water environment with artificial intelligence, big data, new materials, new technology and new equipment.The academic directions of offshore deepwater completion-production-gathering and transportation integration, offshore deepwater engineering and safety guarantee, offshore gas hydrate special development theory and technology, offshore oil and gas field stimulation and improvement, offshore oil field polymer injection development and so on have long accumulated research and comparative advantages.

5). Intelligent Oil and Gas Engineering (0820J1).Aiming at the engineering technology and management issues of greatly improving the efficiency of oil and gas exploitation, reducing the cost of exploitation and controlling security risks, artificial intelligence, big data and other technologies are organically integrated into the field of oil and gas engineering, and the characteristic interdisciplinary direction of intelligent oil and gas engineering is established.In geophysical information more multi-parameter intelligent evaluation, oil and gas engineering digital twin body construction, drilling and well completion risk intelligent prediction and diagnosis, drilling and well completion global collaborative intelligent optimization and design, drilling and well completion process intelligent control technology, oil and gas pipeline network intelligent inspection and pipeline state real time monitoring and risk early warning technology research,Developing fracturing construction remote intelligent warning and parameters of dynamic optimization control technology and equipment system, balanced smart note to adopt high efficiency oil displacement dynamic monitoring and control technology and intelligent equipment system and the unattended water drainage gas recovery Wells production system, to enhance the level of reservoir management, improve the development efficiency, achieve more intelligent security system of oil and gas engineering technology to provide theoretical and technical support.

3. Basic requirements

1). Basic knowledge and structure that should be mastered

(1) Have a deep understanding of oil and gas reservoir geology, seepage mechanics, rock (body) mechanics, multiphase pipe flow, well string mechanics, oilfield chemistry, engineering information and control theory.

(2) Master a solid and broad basic theoretical system, mainly composed of theoretical knowledge of mathematics, physics, mechanics, chemistry, heat and mass transfer, geology, mechanical engineering, information measurement and control and other disciplines.

(3) Master at least one computer programming language and one foreign language, and master relevant interdisciplinary knowledge.

2). should have the basic quality

(1) Have the spirit of innovation, critical questioning, seeking truth from facts and rigorous academic research.

(2) Have engineering philosophy thinking, abide by engineering ethics and academic ethics.

(3) Strong academic expression, interpersonal communication and international cooperation and communication skills.

(4) Have a sense of teamwork, with strong organizational management and leadership skills.

(5) Lifelong learning ability, able to adapt to future industry development and technological change.

3). Basic academic ability required

(1) Knowledge and resource acquisition and utilization ability.Skilled use of traditional and modern literature retrieval methods and databases to obtain the required information, and pay close attention to the frontiers and development trends of oil and gas engineering disciplines.

(2) Ability of academic identification, judgment and evaluation.On the basis of mastering solid and broad basic theories and systematic and in-depth professional knowledge, facing the forefront of disciplines and major national needs, and combining with the understanding of scientific research practice, we can form the ability of academic identification, judgment and evaluation.

(3) Technological innovation ability.Innovate the theoretical methods, technology, materials, tools and equipment of engineering operations, and form the ability to solve complex engineering and scientific problems through scientific and technological innovation.

(4) Engineering practice and scientific research ability.For doctoral students to participate in the engineering practice and scientific research, cultivate found problems from engineering practice, concise scientific problems, determine the research objectives and tasks, scientific research technology, grasp the observation description, theoretical analysis and experimental research, numerical calculation and simulation research methods, such as forming ability to work independently with high level research.

(5) Ability of academic expression, communication and international exchange and cooperation.Have the ability to write academic papers in international journals, attend high-level academic conferences, present research results and respond to inquiries, and deeply communicate and participate in international exchanges and cooperation.

(6) Adaptability to occupational environment.After graduation, I am qualified for teaching, basic research, technology research and application, and project management in universities, scientific research institutes, government departments, oil and gas production and technical service enterprises.

4). Basic requirements for doctoral dissertation

(1) Thesis topic selection.The topic is the academic frontier of the discipline, pioneering, facing major engineering and technical problems and major needs, has important theoretical significance or practical value for the development of the discipline, clear research direction, prominent theme.

(2) Literature review and condensing of scientific issues.Literature review should comprehensively and deeply reflect the research direction and the latest achievements and development trends of relevant scientific fields, clarify the research status and existing problems, summarize objectively and clearly, and concise and accurate scientific problems.

(3) Innovation and paper value.Explore valuable phenomena, new laws, put forward new propositions, new methods;Form a theoretical system; Objective evaluation of previous proposals or conclusions related to the basic subject issues;Or creatively solve key problems in natural science or engineering;The thesis and results have important influence and function on the progress of science and technology in the field (industry).

(4) Basic knowledge and research ability.The thesis shows that the author has a solid and broad basic theory and systematic in-depth specialized knowledge; Having the ability to engage in scientific research independently;Using advanced technology, equipment, methods and information to carry out research work; Theoretical analysis, experimental research, data acquisition and analysis, simulation calculation, field test, comprehensive evaluation and other workload is full.

(5) Paper writing and standardization.The quotation chart and statement are clearly marked; Around the theme of the layout, the structure of the paper is reasonable, logical; Accurate and fluent writing, good at summarizing and refining; Text and charts effectively support the expression of innovative achievements. The writing format of the thesis conforms to the general norms of official publications and dissertation writing of the state, school and college.

4. Educational system and cultivation mode

1). the length of schooling

The basic length of schooling is 3 years, and the maximum length of schooling is 8 years.The length of study and the longest length of study for doctoral students shall be determined after obtaining the doctoral qualification.

2) Cultivation methods

It mainly adopts the training mode of combining course study, scientific research, academic exchange and social practice. It adopts the mode of combining the responsibility of the first tutor with the guidance of the team, and encourages joint training at home and abroad.

5. Training program

1). Course learning

Curriculum learning is a necessary link to ensure the quality of doctoral training. The course study of doctoral students emphasizes on consolidating the theoretical basis of the discipline, stimulating research interest, mastering research methods, cultivating independent thinking and critical questioning ability, and enhancing innovation and development ability. Cultivate humanistic quality, engineering ethics, scientific spirit, teamwork spirit, and abide by academic norms and ethics.

2). Practice

PhD students are encouraged to take an active part in engineering, scientific research and social practice, take an active part in high-level international academic exchanges, improve their academic expression and communication skills, and broaden their academic horizon.

3). Dissertation

(1) Qualification assessment

Before entering the thesis period, the qualification of doctoral students is assessed, and after passing the assessment, they can enter the argumentation link.

(2) Proposal demonstration, mid-term inspection, evaluation and defense

It shall refer to the administrative measures of College of Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering on postgraduate dissertation defense and degree awarding and relevant documents of Southwest Petroleum University.

4). Triage assessment

Refer to relevant documents of Southwest Petroleum University and College of Petroleum & Gas Engineering.

6. Curriculum system and curriculum setting

The doctoral course of petroleum and natural gas engineering includes four parts: public compulsory courses, basic specialized courses, elective courses and supplementary courses. For specific requirements, please refer to the List of course setting and Training Links (Attached Table 1).According to relevant documents of Southwest Petroleum University and School of Petroleum & Gas Engineering, credit recognition of interdisciplinary majors, schools, schools and countries is implemented.

Doctoral students should make a course plan according to the training scheme under the guidance of the supervisor, allowing phased course selection, but must complete the course selection within 1 year after enrollment at the latest. The duration of the course can be selected according to the need, or arranged before the thesis work, or the course study and the thesis work at the same time, but the degree of compulsory courses should generally be completed within the first year, all courses should be completed within two years. The required credits must be completed before applying for dissertation defense.

Course learning is an important training link for doctoral students. Doctoral courses are composed of basic theory courses, professional core courses, professional elective courses and compulsory courses (compulsory courses are not counted as credits), with a minimum of 14 credits. "China Overview" and "Chinese language" can be applied for exemption after meeting relevant requirements, see Attached Table 1.

7. Degree standards and degree awarding

1). Degree criteria

To meet the requirements of relevant documents such as "Regulations on Basic Requirements for Academic Achievements of Graduate Students applying for Degrees" issued by Southwest Petroleum University and College of Petroleum and Gas Engineering, and to meet the quality standards for granting degrees.

2). Degree awarding

After completing all links of doctoral training, meeting the basic requirements of doctoral training, achieving the doctoral training objectives, passing the doctoral dissertation defense, and passing the examination and approval of the academic Degree Evaluation Committee, the candidate can be awarded the degree of Doctor of Engineering.

8. Program application

This program has been used since 2022 graduate students.
